Bellator Announces First Round Of Title Tournament
Bellator has announced the first round bracket and locations for their World Grand Prix 2018 Heavyweight Tournament.
The opening round will begin on January 20th at Bellator 192. The event at the Forum will see Quinton “Rampage” Jackson return to Bellator to take on Chael Sonnen. Jackson, known for his stints in PRIDE and the UFC, will look to add another title to his resume, while Sonnen will look to define his career with a victory over the popular Jackson.
The second fight will take place at Bellator 194 from the Mohegan Sun Arena, as Matt Mitrione will face off against Roy Nelson. Both fighters have stood across the cage from one another prior to entering Bellator, and Mitrione looks to get revenge against “Big Country.”
The former face of PRIDE, Fedor Emelianeko will battle former UFC heavyweight champion in April, and rounding out the first round will be “King Mo” squaring off against current light heavyweight champion, Ryan Bader in May at the home arena for Bellator, the SAP Center in San Jose, Califonria.
Dates for both the semi-finals and final will be determined, as will tournament alternates who will be available to fill in due to any unforeseen circumstances. The year-long World Grand Prix Heavyweight Tournament will culminate in the winner becoming the new Bellator world heavyweight champion.
