Bellator Champion Cris Cyborg Outworks Simone Silva In Boxing Debut

Cris Cyborg had a successful boxing debut.

Cyborg overpowered Simone Silva and recorded a unanimous decision win after an eight-round bout on the Fight Music Show 2 card.

“I’m very happy,” Cyborg told FMS broadcast partner Combate after the win.

“Simone is a very tough athlete, a boxing pioneer, and I’m honored to have fought her.”

Cyborg landed harder shots in all eight of the two-minute rounds. In the third and sixth rounds, Cyborg gave a good right hand and solid uppercut, but Silva was able to stand her ground.

Both boxers let out a barrage of punches to finish up the final round, but it wasn’t enough for Silva to get the edge.

Cyborg, who is the current Bellator featherweight champion, was able to utilize head movement to break down the fellow Brazilian boxer.

Cyborg’s debut was close to not happening because Silva was serving a 60-day medical suspension after a knockout loss on August 13. But Organização Brasileira de Boxe just decided not to oversee the fight.

Associação Paranaense de Lutas was called to oversee the match.

According to MMA Fighting, it’s unclear if the bout will be a pro bout or exhibition.
