Bellator Commentator Gets BJJ Black Belt
Bellator commentator Jimmy Smith is not just someone who sits behind a desk and talks about the action — he has experience training and competing in the world of mixed martial arts.
Smith was a wrestler in high school, and he got into jiu-jitsu during his days at UCLA. Just a few days ago, Smith achieved a personal feat — he earned his black belt in BJJ from Carlson Gracie Team.
"I’m proud of my jiu-jitsu lineage from Rey Diogo and Carlson Gracie," Smith told MyMMANews.com. "[I] love being on the mat whenever I’m not on the mic."
Smith went 6-1 in his professional MMA career before retiring in 2006. He has also been a champion in several jiu-jitsu tournaments.
Smith starred in two seasons of Discovery Channel’s Fight Quest before becoming a part of the M-1 Global broadcasting team prior to joining Bellator. Smith also commentates for Premier Boxing Champions.
