Bellator Dublin/Bellator 227: Gallagher, Henderson Pull Off Wins

With a rowdy, native Irish crowd on his side, James Gallagher didn’t need long to score a victory inside the Bellator cage, as the MMA promotion hosted two cards — Bellator Dublin and Bellator 227 — on the same night at the 3Arena in Dublin, Ireland.

In the Bellator Dublin portion of the event, James Gallagher quickly countered Roman Salazar’s attempt to bring the fight to the ground by locking him in a guillotine choke, getting a first-round submission a little more than 30 seconds into the fight.

After the fight, he jumped out of the cage to celebrate with his SBG Ireland teammate, Irish superstar and “Notorious” former two-division UFC champion Conor McGregor.

The card also notably featured Michael “Venom” Page in action for the first time since his first defeat at the hands of Douglas Lima back in May. Page took on Richard Kiely in a bizarre fight that featured taunting from both individuals that was warned by referee Dan Miragliotta.

“MVP” ended up deducted one point for mocking his opponent with the fight on the ground, but that wouldn’t end up mattering, as Page landed a brutal flying knee that sent his opponent to the mat, unable to continue.

Bellator Dublin also saw native fighter Peter Queally pull off a come-from-behind knockout after being dropped in the opening round, as he finished off Ryan Scope in the next round.

The Bellator 227 portion of the card was headlined by former UFC and WEC champion Benson Henderson, as he welcomed fellow UFC veteran Myles Jury to the Bellator cage for the first time. Henderson consistently overwhelmed Jury with striking and kept him on the back foot, going on to sweep the judges’ scorecards in a unanimous decision win.
