Bellator Releases 13 Fighters: Karakhanyan Leads List

Following major additions to their roster, Bellator has decided to balance out their roster for the new hires.

According to a report from Bloody Elbow via MMA writer Jason Floyd, the Viacom owned MMA brand released 13 fighters following Bellator 194 on Friday.

Per Ward, the list of cuts includes:  LC Davis, Steve Garcia, Steve Kozola, Kendall Grove, Georgi Karakhanyan, Fernando Gonzalez, Kevin Casey, Francisco France, Mike Rhodes, Francis Carmont, Phillipe Lins, Ben Reiter, and Alexis Dufresne

Kendall Grove: Went 4-5 in nine Bellator fights. Challenged for the middleweight title in 2015, but was stopped by Brandon Halsey in the fourth round. Had lost three bouts in a row, last dropping a split decision to A.J. Matthews in January.

Georgi Karakhanyan: A former WSOF featherweight champion who went .500 in Bellator and was coming off a loss to Henry Corrales in January.

Fernando Gonzalez: Entering his fourth year with the company, and even though he had a 7-2 record, had issues making weight as he would go over the welterweight limit four times in nine fights, and tested positive for marijuana after another bout.

Francis Carmont: Carmont would have a better than .500 in his five Bellator fights, but much like Grove Karakhanyan and Gonzalez suffered a loss in his most recent fight.

L.C. Davis: Was in the midst of a two fight losing streak, dropping losses to Joe Warren and Marcos Galvao. He hadn’t fought since late 2016.

Steve Garcia: While spending all but two fights with Bellator, he would go 5-2 with the promotion, but lost two of his three most recent fights, including his most recent fight in July

Steve Kozola: Was in the midst of a two fight losing streak, including a 57 second knockout from Jake Smith in January.

Kevin Casey: Would only fight twice for the company, going to a draw in his first fight against Keith Berry, and a decision loss to Chris Honeycutt in August of 2017.

Francisco France: France would only win one of his fights in Bellator, and was knocked out in his last two.

Mike Rhodes: Would miss weight for his scheduled debut fight, and would end up being submitted early in the first round in July by Rafael Lovato Jr.

Philipe Lins: Would go an even 3-3 in Bellator, but would lose three of his last four fights before the scorecards.

Ben Reiter: Walked in Bellator at 14-0, and would go 3-2 inside the Bellator cage, losing two of his last three fights, with his most recent a decision loss to A.J. McGee in December 2016.

Alexis Dufresne: A talent that came over from the UFC, also brought her weight cutting issues with her as she would miss weight for two fights, one her short notice debut against Marloes Coenen originally slated to be a title fight, and a fight that was originally slated for Bellator 189 which would be scrapped.
