Ben Askren Weighs In On Losing To Jake Paul
Ben Askren has spoken out on suffering a TKO loss to Jake Paul.
This past Saturday night, April 17, Askren and Paul went one-on-one in a boxing match. This was Askren’s first pro boxing bout and Paul’s third. Paul ended up scoring the first-round TKO victory.
During a post-fight virtual scrum, Askren said he feels the ridicule for losing to a YouTuber is warranted (h/t MMAFighting.com).
“It’s probably deserved. Because I got knocked out by Jake Paul. It’s [expletive] embarrassing.
“I didn’t let the MMA community down, I let the world down. People [expletive] hate Jake Paul and they wanted to see me make him miserable and I didn’t do that. So I didn’t let the MMA community down, I let the world down.”
Askren went on to share his theory on what went wrong against Paul.
“I heard my coach Mike [Rhodes] he was saying I was definitely overreacting to his feints and that was the beginning of the end. I probably shouldn’t have reacted that hard to the feints. If that ref would have let me grapple a little longer, maybe that would have helped out a little bit but at the end of the day no excuses. I got in a [expletive] boxing match and it didn’t go so well.”
