Ben Rothwell Parts Ways With UFC After 13 Years

One of the most experienced UFC fighters, Ben Rothwell, is no longer part of the promotion.

MMA Fighting was the first to report the news ahead of his scheduled fight against Alexander Gustafsson at a May Fight Night event.

It’s unclear if there will be a replacement for Gustafsson.

Rothwell (39-14-0, 9-8 in the UFC) made his debut back in 2009 against former UFC heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez (14-3-0) and suffered defeat in the second round via TKO.

In his first five appearances, he only earned two victories, but after his third defeat, he managed to earn four victories in a row. He defeated Alistair Overeem when he was in his prime in 2014.

In the last year, he held two battles, where he earned one submission victory against Chris Barnett and suffered defeat in his final battle against Marcos Rogerio De Lima.

For the first time since 2009, he will be a free agent.
