Ben Whittaker (10-0-1, 7 KOs) is being lined up for his U.S. debut on the Jaron Ennis vs. Xander Zayas June 27 card provided he beats Braian Suarez this Saturday.
Whittaker must navigate a dangerous hurdle in Liverpool. Originally the co-main event, Whittaker was promoted to the headliner after Callum Smith withdrew from his fight with David Morrell due to injury. Suarez is no pushover; the Argentinian has stopped 20 of his 21 opponents. While he is viewed as a “stepping stone” for Whittaker, his power makes him a genuine threat for an upset. However, a Whittaker win guarantees him a place on the Ennis-Zayas card.
“Ben Whittaker fights Suarez, who’s a big power puncher. This is a big moment for Ben, a big run, because if he’s successful on Saturday, he’ll go on the Boots against Xander card for his American debut,” Hearn said
