Benavidez On His Future After Zurdo Ramirez

David Benavidez (31-0, 25 KOs) confirmed that his primary objective after his upcoming cruiserweight debut is a return to 175 lbs to challenge Dmitry Bivol.

Benavidez is currently preparing for a Cinco de Mayo fight against Zurdo Ramirez on May 2 for Ramirez’s unified WBA and WBO cruiserweight titles, giving Benavidez the chance to become a three-division world champion. Benavidez has made it clear that his heart remains at light heavyweight, where he is the WBC champion. 

Despite Bivol vacating the WBC belt last year rather than facing his mandatory Benavidez, he still holds the WBA, WBO and IBF belts. However, by capturing the cruiserweight titles, Benavidez increases his leverage in negotiations for a potential fight with IBF cruiserweight champ Jai Opetaia.

“I want to make the biggest and best fights happen. There’s a lot of tough fights out there. There’s Dmitry Bivol, Artur Beterbiev, and Jai Opetaia.Bivol, because he has all the belts at light heavyweight. Then the other monster, Beterbiev. By the time I’m done, I want it so they can’t say I’m not the best,” Benavidez said
