Benn Has Signed For Garcia Fight, Manager Confirms

Conor Benn’s (25-1, 14 KOs) manager Keith Connolly has confirmed that Benn has put pen to paper on a proposed September showdown with Ryan Garcia (25-2, 20 KOs) and believes a public announcement is drawing closer.

“We’ve signed on our side. I think Ryan’s accepted it, too. I think they’re working out some issues with the networks. I don’t really want to talk about that. I have my guy signed for the fight and ready to go, and I think we’ll hear some positive news in the next couple of weeks,” Connolly

The path to the fight has not been straightforward. Golden Boy Promotions previously raised objections over Garcia’s involvement in negotiations conducted outside its promotional structure, issuing a cease-and-desist letter to Zuffa Boxing earlier this month.

While Garcia previously announced he would defending his WBC welterweight belt against Benn on September 12, his promoter Oscar De la Hoya said no talks had taken place. Benn last fought on April 11, beating Regis Prograis by unanimous decision in April. Garcia’s most recent outing came on February 21, when he defeated Mario Barrios to claim the WBC welterweight title.
