Berchelt Looks To KO Vargas In Rematch
Over two years after their first fight, Miguel Berchelt looks for his rematch with Francisco Vargas to end the same way, Vargas out on the canvas.
Battling for the WBC super featherweight title on May 11th, Berchelt is looking to stop Vargas within ten rounds, the same way he did in January 2017, stopping the then undefeated Vargas to win the title.
“It’s a rematch that a lot of people had expected. And also from the side of ‘Bandido’ Vargas, every time he had the opportunity he issued a challenge to me. He told me that he had given me the opportunity [to fight for the title] and now he wanted one in return. And now, well, this 11th of May we will face each other in Tucson,” Berchelt said.
“There will always be a rivalry, a sporting rivalry and that rivalry remains up there in the ring, I have nothing personal against ‘Bandido’ Vargas and I do not like to talk about predictions, I prefer that to speak my fists – but I would like to get the victory by knockout and in less than 10 rounds.”
Looking ahead, Berchelt eyes unifying his title and facing some of the best fighters at 130 pounds.
“What I want is to defend my title and afterwards we will see, there are great champions like Masayuki Ito, there is Tevin Farmer, Gervonta Davis. There are times when, due to promoters, the fights are very difficult to make, but I will continue to show that I am the best 130-pounder in the world,” Berchelt said.
