Beterbiev-Koelling for Vacant IBF Title
Now that Andre Ward announced his retirement from professional boxing, new champions will need to be determined for the titles he gave up.
On Nov. 11, top light heavyweight contenders Artur Beterbiev and Enrico Koelling are scheduled to meet one another. Originally this was going to be an IBF title eliminator bout, but due to Ward’s retirement, the IBF has approved this bout to be for the vacant title.
In a letter sent by the organization to Top Rank’s Carl Moretti, it states:
“This is to notify you that IBF light heavyweight champion Andre Ward has retired. Now that the title is vacant, the IBF will approve the Artur Beterbiev vs. Enrico Koelling eliminator as a fight for the vacant title.”
The Beterbiev-Koelling bout will take place on Nov. 11 on a Top Rank on ESPN card. The card will also feature Jessie Magdaleno defending the WBO junior featherweight title against Cesar Juarez, and Jose Ramirez taking on Mike Reed in a junior welterweight contest.
