Beterbiev Vs. Smith Purse-Bid Winner Announced As Eddie Hearn Loses Out
Top Rank and Group Yvon Michel won the purse bid for their fighter Artur Beterbiev’s WBC title defense against Callum Smith, beating Eddie Hearn in the process.
Beterbiev has an unbeaten record of 19 wins and 19 knockouts. The current IBF, WBO, and WBC light heavyweight champion arrives into the bout in good form.
His latest victory was a TKO win over Anthony Yarde in the eighth round. Much in the same way, Smith’s confidence is riding high.
He stopped Lenin Castillo in the second round and knocked out Mathieu Bauderlique in the fourth round, showing his pedigree. And with a lot on the line, a purse bid was the only way to get the two camps on board.

According to Mauricio Sulaiman, Top Rank submitted a winning bid of $2,115,000, $15,000 higher than Matchroom’s offer of $2,100,000.
A purse bid was called after Top Rank and Group Yvon Michel, who co-promotes Beterbiev, and Matchroom, could not reach a deal.
Now that the terms have been agreed, the announcement of a date and venue should be forthcoming.
