Bill Haney Fuels Davis vs. Haney By Recalling Intense Sparring Session

Bill Haney is talking up a potential Devin Haney and Gervonta Davis fight despite his son’s upcoming bout with Ryan Garcia on April 20.

Devin defends his WBC Junior Welterweight Title as Garcia reentered negotiations after initially pulling out to secure a Rolando Romero fight. Haney has expressed his desire to make the biggest fights for the highest purses now that his ‘legacy’ is intact. The Dream is a two-division champion and the former Undisputed Lightweight Champion.

Before making the Garcia fight, team Haney called out Tank Davis. Davis’ camp was reluctant to make the fight, claiming Haney was not a big name after only reportedly selling 50,000 PPVs for the Regis Prograis fight. Leonard Ellerbe also ruled out the fight, saying Davis is a 135-pound fighter. But a fight has always been on the table since their sparring at the Mayweather Boxing Gym early in their career. Davis and Haney have different narratives over the sparring.

Adrien Broner recalled Davis almost stopping Haney before the Dream got the better of Tank. The sparring footage has never been released, but it is in Floyd Mayweather’s possession. Bill Haney was keen to clear up the narrative. He shared footage of Curmel Moton getting the better of his sparring partner, whose mother stepped in the ring to stop it. Bill implied Broner had to enter the ring to prevent Haney from stopping Davis.
