Bill Haney Responds To The Possibility Of His Son Fighting Ennis

Bill Haney addressed the potential clash between his son, Devin Haney, and Jaron Ennis, explaining why they are eyeing other targets at 154 pounds.

Despite Devin recently calling out unified champion Xander Zayas, the Haney camp has bypassed Ennis. Bill Haney’s explanation for prioritizing Zayas over Ennis boils down to a single requirement: belts. Zayas is currently the WBA and WBO Junior Middleweight Champion. For the Haneys, moving up to 154 is strictly about becoming a four-division world champion. In contrast, Ennis currently holds the WBA Interim Title at 154, rather than the full world championship, making that fight less appealing.

“He doesn’t have a belt at 154, and we were interested in fighting ‘Boots’ at 147 with the belt. When he gets a belt at 154, then we’ll revisit the fight. But he’s on the list. That’s going to happen. It’s just a matter of when it’s going to happen, and what it’s going to happen for,” Bill said
