Bill Haney Says Garcia Made A ‘Mistake’ By Ducking Devin For Rolly

Bill Haney has slammed Ryan Garcia for avoiding his son, Devin Haney, by choosing to face Rolando Romero

Garcia initially called out Haney after Devin’s win over Regis Prograis to become the WBC junior welterweight champion. A fight seemed on the cards, with Oscar De La Hoya and Eddie Hearn confident a deal could get done. With Gervonta Davis distancing himself from Devin Haney, all eyes were on Haney-Garcia. That all changed as Garcia called it the best ‘business move’ to face Romero. Bill Haney accused Garcia of ducking and not giving fans what they wanted.

“They made every excuse. It was too much for you, Ryan, because you made the biggest mistake in the world. Whenever Teo is ready [he can fight Devin]. He’s got work to do with Jamaine Ortiz. What does he [Ryan] mean that he’s a draw and Devin’s not? His own people are our people. Can we all get along?

“He [Ryan] doesn’t care about these people, so I expected that out of him,” said Bill, talking down about Ryan changing his mind about fighting Devin. Who cares about Rolly? They [the fans] don’t care about Rolly. I’m doing what the people love. They pay good money to come out and see good fights,” Bill Haney stated

A fight with Haney is much more difficult to sell than a Romero fight. Haney’s last fight with Prograis reportedly did 50,000 PPV buys. Garcia may well have drummed up interest in Haney to raise his profile before taking the perceived easier fight with Romero. Either way, it has gotten boxing fans talking.
