Bill Haney Will Attend Devin Haney’s Undisputed Championship This Weekend

Bill Haney will be in attendance for his son’s most important fight after all.

Lou DiBella – who promotes George Kambosos Jr and co-promotes Devin Haney – confirmed that the elder Haney will arrive in Australia by Saturday evening, which is just in time for the younger Haney’s quest for undisputed lightweight champion status.

Bill serves as Devin’s head trainer and manager along with being just his dad.

Haney’s father was previously barred from flying to Australia due to a near 30-year-old drug conviction. He and his son expressed their sadness, but the elder Haney said he prepared his son for this moment.

Australian visa rules say that former felons who have served 12 months or more in prison will not be granted an ETA (Electronic Travel Authority) or eVisitor visa, which is required for short-term visits.

A back-up was already set for Haney’s father’s absence. Yoel Judah — Bill’s mentor and close family – was going to lead Haney’s corner.

But a final review of the elder Haney’s visa application and Devin providing a Statutory Declaration were convincing enough for the approval.

The younger Haney kicked off fight week with a mouthy press conference with Kambosos, impressive open media workout and tense face-off.

Though Haney’s father was able to make it, his cutman, Bob Ware, was detained at Melbourne International Airport after arriving. Boxing Scene reported there was an alleged discrepancy on his visa application.

Authorities reportedly claim that Ware did not disclose a conviction on his original ETA.

Ware is under supervision at Melbourne Immigration Transit, whose detention center is just 30 minutes north of Marvel Stadium where Haney will be putting his WBC on the line for Kambosos’ lineal WBA/IBF/WBO titles.
