Billy Joe Saunders: Conor McGregor Will Spark Jake Paul
WBO Super-Middleweight Champion Billy Joe Saunders believes Jake Paul would have a rough time with Conor McGregor.
Paul is a YouTube star, who has been trying to goad McGregor to face him in a boxing match. He’s even gone as far as to hurl insults at McGregor’s fiancee, Dee Devlin. Paul’s trainer, BJ Flores, has said he wants the Internet celebrity to box an MMA fighter next. Names such as Dillon Danis, Ben Askren, and Michael Bisping have been floated around.
Saunders knows a thing or two about the sweet science. In 30 pro boxing bouts, Saunders has emerged victorious in all of them. He is 30-0 with 14 wins by way of knockout. As mentioned, he is a world champion at 168 pounds.
During a chat with iFL TV, Saunders expressed his belief that McGregor would hurt Paul in a boxing match (via BoxingScene.com).
“You don’t really want them throwing punches at each other because I can see [McGregor] knock someone out cold, that fella [Paul] never had a fight in his life. You can clearly see boxing is not a playground. I think Conor McGregor will spark him and hurt him bad in UFC or boxing. I still think Conor McGregor takes him bad, to be honest.
“If they’re looking at, what is it? 50 million? Conor McGregor should go and whoop his ass and take that off him because it’ll be very comfortable. But it’s very dangerous [for the safety of Paul]. If they’re all going to make money and the promoters are going to put in on, who am I to say it’s not good?”
McGregor is 0-1 as a boxer but that one loss came to Hall of Fame elect Floyd Mayweather. The “Notorious” one is more known for his skills in MMA. There, he has a record of 22-4 with 19 knockouts. McGregor is a former UFC champion in the featherweight and lightweight divisions.
