Billy Joe Saunders Explains Why He’s Disappointed With Eddie Hearn

Billy Joe Saunders has shared his one disappointment with Matchroom Boxing’s Eddie Hearn.

Saunders is the WBO Super-Middleweight Champion. Canelo Alvarez holds the WBA, WBC, and The Ring gold. The two will collide on May 8 with all of the titles on the line. The title bout will be promoted by Matchroom Boxing.

During an interview with iFL TV, Saunders admitted he isn’t too thrilled about Hearn already in search of venues for a potential clash between Canelo and IBF Super-Middleweight Champion Caleb Plant (via BoxingScene.com).

“I’m a bit disappointed because he’s already planning venues for the Caleb Plant fight. You know. It’s one of them. People can say what they want and you know, you got this shot. And people look at… f— the money. F— everything. I’m here to win.”

While Saunders has expressed his disappointment, Hearn has made it clear that he feels Saunders poses a threat. He told Erika Montoya that Saunders isn’t afraid of Canelo.

“When I’m sitting watching Canelo I think ‘how good this fighter is, he can’t be beat.’ But here comes Billy Joe Saunders, who has long said he will beat Canelo. I think if there is anyone, in the division that can stop him, it’s Saunders… because he has the style and the movement and he has something different in his head: He is not afraid.”

Saunders brings with him an unbeaten pro boxing record of 30-0. His last outing took place back in November 2020. He defeated Martin Murray via unanimous decision.

Canelo hasn’t lost a fight since September 2013. He was beaten by Floyd Mayweather via majority decision. Canelo has gone 13-0-1 since that fight.
