The father of Billy Joe Saunders claims the Canelo Alvarez fight is now off.
Canelo and Saunders are scheduled to fight this Saturday night, May 8. Canelo’s WBA, WBC, and The Ring Super-Middleweight Titles will be on the line, while Saunders’ WBO gold will be at stake. If Saunders’ father is to be believed, however, then the bout has been canceled.
Tom Saunders told iFL TV that negotiations for the size of the ring have fallen apart and as a result, he says there will be no fight this weekend (via Michael Benson).

Here is video of the interview.
Saunders has been adamant about the ring size being adjusted to his liking. Saunders feels it doesn’t make sense for the ring to be 20 feet or less due to the size of AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. One would imagine that cooler heads will prevail but if not, there’s likely to be a ton of backlash Saunders’ way.
One prominent name who is backing Saunders’ small ring gripe is Tyson Fury. Fury took to his Instagram account to show support for Saunders and called for an even playing field.
