Billy Joe Saunders Likely To Return In December

Billy Joe Saunders (30-1, 14 KOs) is back to the gym after a year out of action.

The last time he was in action was in an eight-round loss against Canelo Alvarez in May 2021. The 32-year-old has been in Dominic Ingle’s gym in recent days as he prepares for a comeback fight scheduled in December 2022.

Saunders suffered multiple fractures on his left eye socket during the latter stages of the match against Canelo.

Currently, Saunders has a mountain to climb to get his rematch clause against Alvarez.

He has to beat a handful of athletes, such as Caleb Plant, Jermall Charlo, David Benavidez, David Morrell Jr, Edgar Berlanga, or Gennadiy Golovkin.

“He came back a couple of weeks back just to find his feet, get away from home,” Ingle said to The Star about Joe Saunders.

“He’s aiming to fight in December. His nutritionist Greg Marriott is based in Sheffield; we have just got to sit down and work out a plan of where he goes from there,”.

“That’s another conversation I need to have when I get back to Sheffield. It might work out; it might not,” said Ingle.
