Bivol Eyes Beterbiev Trilogy Despite WBO Mandatory Pressure

Dmitry Bivol (23-1, 12 KOs) is pushing for a trilogy fight with Artur Beterbiev (21-0, 20 KOs) despite growing pressure from the WBO to face mandatory challenger Callum Smith — with David Benavidez circling as a further complication.

Bivol returned last month after an extended layoff, outpointing Michael Eifert in a one-sided IBF mandatory defence. With that obligation cleared, promoter Eddie Hearn has confirmed the unified light heavyweight champion’s priorities.

“There’s a lot of interest in the Beterbiev fight in Russia. It’s a fight that’s important to Dmitry. Dmitry wants the biggest fights in the sport.”

The pair have already split their first two meetings — Beterbiev edging a majority decision opener before Bivol claimed revenge in the rematch. A back injury subsequently pushed back plans for a trilogy, but the appetite on Bivol’s side remains clear.
