BJ Penn Return Targeted For November Or December

Former UFC champion BJ Penn is looking to return to the octagon for at least one more fight.

According to ESPN’s Ariel Helwani, UFC is currently targeting a fight between Penn and Ryan Hall at a UFC event later this year. The fight, which would be contested at lightweight, could take place either in November or December at a venue to be determined later.

Penn, who is reportedly training in Brazil, has lost his last five fights and winless in his last six fights. After a 2014 loss to Frankie Edgar, Penn took a two-and-a-half year break from MMA before returning to the octagon in 2017. Since making his return, Penn suffered a TKO loss to Yair Rodríguez and then a decision loss to Dennis Siver, a fight that took place more than a year ago. The 39-year-old Penn, who has held the UFC lightweight and welterweight titles, has not won a fight since a 2010 knockout win over Matt Hughes.

Hall, the winner of The Ultimate Fighter 22 lightweight tournament, has won his last six fights after losing his pro MMA debut in 2006. Hall fought as a featherweight in his last fight back in 2016 when he scored a unanimous decision win over Gray Maynard.
