Bob Arum Confirms He Doesn’t Want Eddie Hearn To Speak On Joshua-Fury
Top Rank Boxing’s Bob Arum admits he did contact Eddie Hearn to urge the fellow promoter to stop talking about Anthony Joshua vs. Tyson Fury.
Joshua vs. Fury is widely considered to be the biggest fight that can be made in boxing. Joshua is the WBA (Super), IBF, WBO, and IBO Heavyweight Champion. Fury holds the WBC and The Ring gold. If the bout comes to fruition, it would involve Matchroom Boxing, Top Rank, and Queensberry Promotions.
Recently, Hearn made the claim that Arum contacted him in hopes of getting him to simmer down on talking about the matchup in his media interviews. Speaking to talkSPORT, Arum confirmed that he did reach out to the Matchroom Boxing director.
“It’s very, very hard for Eddie to shut up. I told him, let’s get this over the line, let’s get this done, and then we’ll make a joint announcement. To stop Eddie is like stopping a raging river, he can’t keep his mouth shut. All I’ll say about what’s happening is that both Matchroom’s side and our side, which includes Queensberry and Robert Davis (the attorney for Tyson). The negotiations have been pleasant, it’s proceeding like every big fight does.
“We made changes, they accept some, they send it back, back and forth. And all I can say is that the issues are gradually dwindling. That’s what you wanna do in this type of situation, you wanna diminish the number of issues. And now the number of issues is less than a handful, so I am very optimistic that this is gonna go over the line.”
FIGHT SPORTS will continue to provide updates on the potential Anthony Joshua vs. Tyson Fury bout as they become available.
