Bob Arum: Davis vs. Loma Talks Could Happen This Week

Talks over a Gervonta Davis vs. Vasily Lomachenko could take place this week.

That is according to Bob Arum Arum suggested the fight prior to Davis stopping Frank Martinin a successful defense of his WBA Lightweight Title. Lomachenko holds the IBF Lightweight Belt, a title he acquired after beating George Kambosos Jr. in his previous fight.

With Loma at 36, time is running out to make the fight. Lomachenko admitted he only faced Kambosos on his father’s advice, saying he could not go out on a defeat after his controversial loss to Devin Haney. With retirement on his mind, now could be the time to make the fight. Lomachenko has long been targeting undisputed, meanwhile, Davis recently admitted that is a goal. Arum has said talks could begin soon.

“We’re up for that fight. Lomachenko’s up for that. When we sit down, we will see if it’s feasible, but Lomachenko would like to do that fight. Davis has established a position where he’s good at the box office … a fight with Davis would produce more money than a fight with Shakur,” Arum said

The fight is arguably later than what fans had wanted. When Lomachenko was in his prime, Davis’ team dismissed the fight, saying they would make it at the right time. Lomachenko’s losses to Teofimo Lopez and Devin Haney show he can be beaten. With Davis’ power, which has taken him to 30-0 with 28 knockouts, it sets up an intriguing fight. Davis’ coach, Calvin Ford, was receptive to the fight.

“It’s a great fight. It’s just the heads that need to put the fight together, and it’ll happen. I think that’s a great fight for the world. “He’s going to. Look at every fighter that fought Tank. They got uplifted, every one of them. Go back and look,” Ford stated
