Bob Arum Explains Why Top Rank Isn’t Promoting Jamel Herring vs. Carl Frampton
Bob Arum of Top Rank Boxing has revealed why he isn’t promoting Jamel Herring vs. Carl Frampton.
Earlier this week, MTK Global announced that Herring vs. Frampton will be taking place on February 27. The bout is scheduled for London, England. Herring’s WBO Junior-Lightweight Title will be on the line.
Top Rank was mum on the announcement and now we know why. Appearing on Barbershop Conversations, Arum revealed that he isn’t promoting the fight as Shakur Stevenson’s legal reps have demanded that his mandatory shot is invoked immediately (h/t Michael Benson).

Stevenson has made it clear that despite his friendship with Herring, he is gunning for his WBO gold. “Sugar” has been running through his opposition. He has amassed a perfect pro boxing record of 15-0 with eight of those victories coming by way of knockout.
While Stevenson is a former WBO Featherweight Champion, he quickly vacated the gold in favor of moving up in weight. He is planning to capture gold at junior-lightweight before making his presence felt at 135 pounds.
Herring’s goal has always been to get the Frampton fight. Stevenson’s argument is that while he initially agreed to let the fight happen, it has passed the deadline. FIGHT SPORTS will keep you updated on this situation as more details become available.
