Bob Arum Reveals Who He Wants Teofimo Lopez To Fight Next
Top Rank Boxing’s Bob Arum has an opponent in mind for Teofimo Lopez.
Lopez is at the top of the mountain in boxing’s lightweight division. “The Takeover” holds the WBA (Super), IBF, WBO, and WBC (Franchise) Lightweight Titles. He was already the IBF Champion going into his bout with Vasiliy Lomachenko but he captured the other titles with his upset unanimous decision victory.
Many have been wondering what’s next for Lopez. While “The Takeover” has expressed interest in moving up to 140 pounds, he could be sticking around at lightweight for the time being.
Arum told BoxingScene.com that he’d like to see Lopez defend all of his gold against mandatory challenger George Kambosos in enemy territory.
“I’m 100 percent in favor of it. It’s a great opportunity for Teofimo. That’s what I’m hoping for. When the government in Australia gets rid of the 14-day quarantine for foreigners then I’m ready to move because already you can do these fights with full capacity stadiums in Australia.”
Lopez’s manager, David McWater, shared in his intrigue in the match and even said the 14-day quarantine rule wouldn’t be a problem.
“There is definitely interest on our part. We’re extremely open-minded to it. Everybody is trying to make it work if possible. We are totally willing to go to Australia. With the quarantine, we can just go there for 10 weeks. Quarantine the first two weeks and then the full eight-week camp could be there, but obviously it would be better if some of the restrictions are dropped. Teofimo will fight anyone in the world and is fine with fighting Kambosos. We’re very interested.”
