Bob Arum Teases Terence Crawford vs. Winner Of Ramirez-Taylor
Top Rank’s Bob Arum says Terence Crawford might get the winner of Jose Ramirez vs. Josh Taylor.
This Saturday night, Ramirez and Taylor will collide in a title unification bout. Ramirez holds the WBC and WBO Junior-Welterweight Titles, while Taylor holds the WBA, IBF, and The Ring gold. The two will clash inside Virgin Hotels in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Crawford holds the WBO Welterweight gold and while he is considered to be one of the best boxers on the planet, he appears to be in limbo. Crawford has been unable to secure a signature fight in his career although talks with Manny Pacquiao were going on before fizzling out.
Arum told Boxing Social that he isn’t ruling out booking Crawford against the winner of Ramirez vs. Taylor (via BoxingScene.com).
“The winner of this fight has agreed to give [undefeated WBO super lightweight mandatory challenger Jack] Catterall a shot. Hopefully things clear up in the UK and we can do the fight over there. But we’ll see. Certainly I have Terence Crawford available to fight the winner of Taylor vs. Ramirez. That would be a tremendous fight. [Crawford] was going to fight [Manny] Pacquiao in Abu Dhabi, but that didn’t come off, So we’re looking around for a big fight for him with spectators sometime in the fall of this year.”
If the winner of Ramirez vs. Taylor were to fight Crawford next, that boxer would likely have to vacate at least one title. That championship would most likely be the WBO as Jack Catterall is the mandatory challenger.
Ramirez vs. Taylor will be airing LIVE on the major ESPN network and on FIGHT SPORTS in over 30 countries.
