Both Charles Oliveira And Arman Tsarukyan Hint At Impending Octagon Returns

Earlier this week, Charles Oliveira (34-9) And Arman Tsarukyan (21-3) took to social media simultaneously to indicate there are plans in the works for their next walks to the octagon.

In the days following his first round finish of Beneil Dariush (22-6-1) at UFC Fight Night Austin, Tsarukyan called for a fight with Oliveira to determine who would receive the next opportunity to challenge for Islam Makhachev’s (25-1) lightweight title. With the call-out and the social media posts in mind, it is speculated that we could see the pair square off in the near future.

“If (Charles) Oliveira thinks he is number one contender, and he’s got the fight, let’s fight and let’s figure out who is number one. If he wins, he can go to the title, if I win, I’ll go.”

“He pulled out from the last fight and he just beat Beneil Dariush and lost to Islam (Makhachev) so it’s like 99% he’s going to lose to Islam [again],” Arman Tsarukyan continued. “So, if they want to see that fight, yeah go ahead, but if they want to see a new generation, new fighter, they gotta put me on that fight and I’m going to show the world like who is the best in our division.”

In October 2022, Oliveira faced Makhachev in the main event of UFC 280 for the vacant 155-pound belt. In the second round of the contest, Makhachev dropped “Do Bronx” and secured an arm triangle submission shortly after to end the bout.

Oliveira bounced back by defeating Beneil Dariush in June, and earned his rematch with Makhachev. Unfortunately, the former champion would have to withdraw from the fight due to a cut suffered in training.

Alexander Volkanovski (26-3) stepped in on short notice to replace Oliveira, looking to settle the score after their first meeting in February. But taking a match with a fighter like Makhachev on short notice is a risky game, and Volkanovski paid the price in the form of a first round head kick knockout.

Tsarukyan is currently riding a 3-fight win streak, with his most recent loss dating back to June 2022. He fought three times in 2023, securing wins over Damir Ismagulov, Joaquim Silva, and Beneil Dariush.
