Boxing Fans’ 2022 Wishlist
The storylines from 2021 have already carried over with so much room to blossom and create even more excitement in 2022.
Here’s some things fans are hoping takes place this year:
The best take on the best: This applies to Terence Crawford vs. Errol Spence Jr. Canelo Alvarez vs. Jermall Charlo then the winner takes on David Benavidez. Tyson Fury vs Usyk… I mean the winner of Oleksandr Usyk-Anthony Joshua II plus a fun bonus fight of 2022, the comeback of Deontay Wilder vs UFC’s heavyweight star Francis Ngannou.
One title per division: The WBA finally cleans up the confusion between its champions in each division. Let’s speed this up.
Expansion of instant replay reviews: This could help cut controversial scorecards. Take Gabriel Maestre-Mykal Fox for example. A rematch was called after many boxing fans and those in the industry ridiculed the decision. One judge was suspended as a result.
Less talk, more fight: Specifically for the lightweight division where everyone seems to be calling one another out. Well, everyone is getting called out except Vasiliy Lomachenko.
Full recovery: For boxing ring announcer David Diamante. Just days before the end of 2021, David was severely injured in a motorcycle accident while riding in Brooklyn. He said he may never walk again. We are all in your corner, David. Our prayers are with you.
