Brandon Figueroa Arrested, Charged With DWI

Former junior featherweight titlist Brandon Figueroa was arrested.

Figueroa was reportedly arrested for allegedly driving while intoxicated. According to Hidalgo County jail records, the 25-year-old had a Blood Alcohol Concentration (BAC) level of 0.15%, which is nearly double the 0.08% state limit. He was arrested overnight on Sunday, October 2 in his hometown of Weslaco, Texas.

He was released on Sunday after posting a $1,000 personal recognizance bond – a form of bail that ensures the accused will appear before the court to face their charges on a specific date in the future.

This is Figueroa’s first serious alleged incident. In May 2016, he was arrested for criminal trespassing – a Class A misdemeanor – but had the case dismissed in January 2017 due to no damage to the alleged property.

Figueroa (23-1-1, 18 KOs), the younger brother of Omar Figueroa, last fought on July 9 when he stopped Carlos Castro in the sixth-round. It was his first since losing a disputed majority decision to Stephen Fulton in their WBC/WBO junior featherweight unification last November 27 in Las Vegas.

It’s unclear when Figueroa will appear in court again. It is also unclear when his next fight will be.

PBC, who the 25-year-old fights under, is prohibited from commenting on legal matters.
