BREAKING: Joe Smith Jr. vs. Maxim Vlasov POSTPONED Due To COVID-19
The vacant WBO Light-Heavyweight Title fight between Joe Smith Jr. and Maxim Vlasov has been pushed back.
Smith and Vlasov were scheduled to collide this Saturday night, February 13. The bout would’ve taken place inside the MGM Grand Conference Center in Las Vegas, Nevada. As it turns out, Smith vs. Vlasov will need a new date.
Top Rank Boxing has announced that Smith vs. Vlasov has been postponed. This is due to a positive COVID-19 test on Vlasov’s end.
In a press release, Vlasov had the following to say on not being able to compete this weekend.
“I am devastated with the postponement of my world title fight against Joe Smith Jr. I have been following strict protocols, I have done regular testing with negative results, and I have no symptoms. I am well prepared and had an excellent training camp. I look forward to the rescheduling of the fight and the opportunity to display my world-class skills.”
The event will still go on. Former IBF Lightweight Champion Richard Commey will take on Jackson Marinez in the new headliner. The co-feature will see Adam Lopez put his NABF Featherweight Championship on the line against Jason Sanchez.
Commey vs. Martinez will air live on the major ESPN network.
