Luke Campbell’s chance of obtaining interim gold will have to wait.
Campbell was scheduled to collide with Ryan Garcia in the main event of a December 5 card. The fight was going to be contested for the interim WBC Lightweight Championship. As it turns out, the bout will be taking place on a new date.
Matchroom Boxing’s Eddie Hearn revealed that Campbell has tested positive for COVID-19 and as a result, he will not be competing on December 5.
Unfortunately @luke11campbell tested positive for Covid 19. He has completed isolation and resumes training shortly but will not be fit for Dec 5. We are working on a new date with @GoldenBoyBoxing and @DAZNBoxing and only anticipate a very short delay to this great fight.

As Hearn mentioned in his statement, Garcia will also not be fighting on December 5. Time will tell just how “short” the delay will be for Garcia vs. Campbell. Hearn, who had tested positive for COVID-19 himself, just recently had to do some rescheduling due to the virus. The rematch between Alexander Povetkin and Dillian Whyte was pushed back after Povetkin tested positive.
We’ll keep you posted once we have more details on Luke Campbell’s recovery as well as when the bout with Ryan Garcia will be rescheduled.
