Glowacki entered as the defending WBO champion. The vacant WBC Cruiserweight Title was also set to be defended, but the WBC pulled its sanctioning over disagreements with the selected referee. And that referee choice would come into play in the controversy.
After a slow first round, the two traded wildly throughout the second, and Brieidis ended up getting deducted one point for an elbow. Brieidis, however, would end up knocking Glowacki right before the bell sounded, forcing the ref to administer a count.
But after Glowacki got up, the fight was allowed to continue by the referee. The bell rang continuously for seconds, and despite that and cries from the crowd and commentator, the referee did not stop the round until Glowacki had already been knocked down a second time.
Brieids then quickly finished Glowacki off in the third to become new WBO champion.

Briedis now advances to the finals of the cruiserweight portion of the WBSS to face Yunier Dorticos, who defeated Andrew Tabiti in the co-main event to win a vacant IBF championship that became up for grabs mere moments before the two walked to the ring.
Dorticos was the one applying the pressure right from the start, as Tabiti looked to focus on defense and counterpunching. A scare happened late in the second when Tabiti tripped over a ring decoration, but fortunately, he was not injured.
The bout had mostly a slow pace until round five, when Dorticos landed a big hook. However, the bout turned into a clinch-fest, causing a hard verbal warning from the referee.
An accidental headbutt left Dorticos with a cut around his eye, but Tabiti continued his lack of action and ended up getting deducted a point for excessive holding.
Then, in the 10th round, all it took was one right hand to bring this fight to a close.
😳 And just like that, @DorticosKO is on his way to the @WBSuperSeries Cruiserweight Final.
