Briggs Gets Six-Month Suspension

Shannon Briggs was looking to revamp his career. The 45-year-old, who grew his popularity through social media, had a heavyweight title fight scheduled. But that was scrapped following a failed drug test, and now Briggs is suspended for six months.

Briggs was to fight Fres Oquendo for the vacant WBA “regular” heavyweight on June 3, but a failed drug test, recorded on May 14, forced the bout’s cancelation. Briggs tested positive for anabolic agents, beta-2 agonist, metabolic modulators, GHRP, hormones and related substances.

Briggs and his team were given the option to open the B sample, but they refused. As a result, Briggs is suspended until November 13 (the suspension retroactively began in May).
