Liam Smith and Chris Eubank Jr. received penalties for their controversial remarks prior to their fight on January 21st, 2023.
According to reports, the British Boxing Board of Control (BBBofC) have intervened in response to comments that were made in the pre-fight presser on January 19th, 2023.
It is alleged that Smith made derogatory comments targeting Eubank Jr.’s sexual orientation by hinting that he was gay, which led to accusations of homophobia.
In response, Eubank Jr. seemed to provoke Smith by alleging that he had cheated on his wife. As a result, a hearing was held in order to determine whether or not both fighters would be held liable.
With that being said, the BBBofC has handed down a heavy punishment.
The BBBofC has fined Liam Smith and Chris Eubank Jr for their behaviour at a press conference ahead of their fight in January. 🥊

“Following full consideration of all facts placed before the Stewards, the Stewards found that the misconduct charge was proven for both boxers.
“Mr Smith and Mr Eubank Jnr were both fined, payment to be made within twenty-eight days,” BBBofC
Despite that outcome, the pair still have a score to settle. Eubank Jr. has reportedly exercised his right to a rematch following his loss, but a fight date has not been announced.
As such, the fighters may have the chance to settle their personal feud once and for all, leaving the door open for a much more intriguing second fight.
