Budd to Defend Title at Bellator 189

Julia Budd made Bellator history back in March at Bellator 174, defeating Marloes Coenen via fourth-round TKO to become the first-ever women’s featherweight champion in promotion history.

Now, Budd is set to make her first defense of the title. On Dec. 1, Budd is scheduled to defend in the main event of Bellator 189 against Arlene Blencowe. This will be the second time these two have faced off in Bellator; Budd defeated Blencowe back at Bellator 162 last October, the last fight Budd had before grabbing the title.

Budd has won all four of her fights in Bellator and is currently on an eight-fight win streak after going 4-0 in Invicta FC as well. When she first started her pro career in Strikeforce, Budd suffered losses to Amanda Nunes and Ronda Rousey but scored a victory over former UFC Women’s Featherweight Champion Germaine de Randamie.

Since the loss to Budd in their first encounter, Blencowe has won three straight bouts. Most recently, at Bellator 182 back on Aug. 25, Blencowe scored a split-decision win over Sinead Kavanagh.

The event is booked for the WinStar World Casino in Thackerville, Oklahoma — the same site where Budd won the championship back in March.
