Cain Velasquez Allegedly Shot At Man Accused Of Molesting Relative

Former UFC heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez, who is being charged with attempted murder, reportedly had an intended target.

Velasquez allegedly shot at a car that carried three individuals – one of whom had been recently accused of molesting Velasquez’s close relative, The San Jose Mercury-News reported.

Twitter user Fight Oracle said Velasquez opened fire on Harry Eugene Goularte, 43, who is accused of abusing Velasquez’s family member, but struck Goularte’s stepfather, who sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

The third individual is unknown.

Goularte lives in San Martin, California at a home-daycare business ran by his mother. The alleged victim is identified as a minor; their name is being withheld. Goularte was arraigned Friday on one felony count of “a lewd and lascivious act with a child under the age of 14.”

Goularte was released despite the Santa Clara District Attorney’s Office’s objections. He was accused of molesting the relative possibly “100 times,” reports said.

Velasquez is being held in Santa Clara County Main Jail without bail. His arraignment is scheduled Wednesday at noon, according to online records.

Goularte is due back in court on April 13, online records also show.

The MMA community, including Anthony Pettis, Sean Strickland and Derek Brunson, has begun to show their support of the former champion with “Free Cain” becoming a hashtag.

“I don’t want to live in a country where you can’t shoot someone who sexually abused your child,” former UFC welterweight Ben Askren wrote on Twitter.

It’s unclear if the minor is Velasquez’s child.
