Cain Velasquez’s Murder Trial Starts In September

Cain Velasquez, the ex-UFC Heavyweight Champion, goes on trial for attempted murder on September 9.

The trial will occur in Santa Clara County, California, following Velasquez’s initial arrest in March 2022. The 41-year-old was arrested after reportedly engaging in a high-speed car chase to pursue Harry Goularte. Goularte was accused of sexually abusing Velasquez’s son at a daycare belonging to Harry’s mother. Velasquez resorted to firing a handgun at Goularte’s vehicle, which hit Goularte’s stepfather, Paul Bender.

Bender did not suffer any life-threatening injuries. Velasquez faces numerous charges, including attempted murder. If convicted, he faces a 20-year sentence minimum, going up to life imprisonment. Velasquez has pleaded not guilty to all charges. Goularte also faces his own charges, including one count of lewd acts with a child. His trial date has not been set.
