Caleb Plant Confident Canelo Alvarez Fight Will Be Made

IBF Super-Middleweight Champion Caleb Plant believes a bout with Canelo Alvarez will eventually come to fruition.

Canelo is the WBA, WBC, WBO, and The Ring Super-Middleweight titleholder. If Canelo and Plant share the ring, the bout would determine an undisputed 168-pound champion. Canelo is fresh off his WBO Title win over Billy Joe Saunders.

During an interview with WKRN, Plant said he’s confident that a deal will be made to make the fight a reality.

“There has never been an undisputed super middleweight (holds all four titles at the same time), so I feel like our two teams are going to sit down here soon to get it worked out. It’s not just a fight we want, it’s a fight that the fans want too.”

Plant went on to say that he believes fight fans and media members forget that Canelo is human.

“He does have a lot of experience at this high level. His has about fifty-six fights, but if we’re being honest, those first forty were in Mexico, and a lot of times we send people down there to get wins that can’t get wins here. A lot of people when they think of this fight, they think of the name, but I’m not fighting the name, I’m fighting the man and the man is human.”

Plant’s most recent outing was against Caleb Truax. Plant successfully retained his IBF gold via unanimous decision. It was Plant’s third title defense.
