Caleb Plant Doesn’t Care About Being Underdog Against Canelo

IBF super-middleweight Caleb Plant will be an underdog for the first time in his career when he takes on Canelo Alvarez this Saturday night at the MGM Grand Garden Arena.

Boxing pundits have declared Canelo a heavy favorite to clinch the IBF title as well, but Plant doesn’t care about it.

During Tuesday’s Grand Arrivals in Las Vegas, the IBF champ said: “The oddsmakers can have me as an underdog. I’ve been an underdog my whole life, and I’ve been proving them wrong my whole life. Those are just numbers. They’ve been wrong before and they’re wrong now.”

Plant won’t back down once he will be inside the ring and said that he enjoys being underrated.

I’m going to be right in his face,” Plant said about Canelo. “I’ve got a chip on my shoulder, but that’s something I’ve carried with me my whole life. That’s I’m here. I like being the underdog, I like being here. I like people booing and I like people rooting against me.”

In Canelo’s entire career so far, only Floyd Mayweather has managed to stay in his face and come out as a winner. And Plant has a long way to go to cement a legacy like Mayweather’s.

He will have to watch out for Canelo’s lightning-quick reflexes in every round to pick up points.
