Caleb Plant Eyes Summer Tune-Up, Then Jermall Charlo

Caleb Plant is eying a return to boxing this summer.

Plant’s previous fight was a unanimous decision loss to David Benavidez last year. ‘Sweethands’ missed the chance to become the WBC Super Middleweight Interim Champion to secure a possible rematch with Canelo Alvarez. Canelo stopped Plant in the 11th round when they met in 2021.

But the former IBF Super Middleweight Champion is looking to secure a tune-up before facing Jermall Charlo. Charlo returned to the ring after more than two years away with mental health struggles, beating Jose Benavidez Jr. last year.

Plant and Charlo set up their bad blood when Plant slapped him after the Errol Spence Jr. vs Terence Crawford weigh-in. Plant accused Charlo of disrespecting him in front of his wife, causing security to separate the two.

Now, Plant wants to face Charlo to settle the score.

“It’ll probably be a tune-up. I’m coming back in the summer. I think the [Jermall] Charlo fight makes the most sense. I know everybody wants to see that, and that’s a big fight for boxing. It’s going to push the culture forward and push boxing forward. It’s something that excites me, and I want to be a part of it.

“I’m sure I’ll be able to make something happen if that [Jermall] doesn’t come to fruition, and that’s what I want. I’m not saying that because I have any word from his team about making a fight. That’s a fight that I wanted coming back, but I’m not going to wait around for him either,” Plant said
