Calvin Ford Keen To See Gervonta Davis Rematch Isaac Cruz For His Next Fight

Calvin Ford has put forward the idea of a Gervonta Davis rematch with Isaac Cruz

The pair put on a memorable fight when they squared off in 2021. Cruz managed to go the distance with Davis, despite the latter being a knockout artist.

And that was one of the two occasions where Davis failed to stop his opponent. In the aftermath of the fight, however, concerns were raised that Davis had broken his hand during the bout.

But now a rematch with Cruz could make sense for Tank’s comeback fight. Davis was recently released from prison after being apprehended for violating the terms of his house arrest in relation to a hit-and-run.

Therefore, expecting him to face the top names in the division is unlikely for now.

Shakur Stevenson will face the next-highest-ranked contender for the vacant WBC belt, which at the moment is Vasiliy Lomachenko.

Meanwhile, Devin Haney’s decision to go to 140 has left Davis with fewer options. Thus, a Cruz fight could be on the cards

“My thing is Pitbull. Devin is moving up. Shakur & Lomachenko will probably do it [fight for the vacant WBC lightweight title] next year.

“Right now, until I see something in writing and they tell us the direction we’re going, that’s where we’re going at,” Ford

Despite this being the case, the boxing community wanted Davis to face a bigger name.
