Canelo Alvarez & Billy Joe Saunders Discuss May 8 Title Fight
Canelo Alvarez and Billy Joe Saunders have talked about their May 8 title bout.
These two are on a collision course with four titles at stake. Canelo’s WBA, WBC, and The Ring Super-Middleweight Titles will be on the line. Saunders will defend his WBO gold.
During a press conference, Saunders touched on how meaningful a victory over Canelo would be for him (h/t Bad Left Hook).
“It would mean the absolute world to me. I’ve been boxing since I was five years old, and to get to this stage of my career, this is the pinnacle of the pinnacle. This fight is going to be legacy because of what’s on the line. I’m just happy to be part of this show because when you look back at how far I’ve come to be here — a lot of people are only giving me a chance to ‘take part,’ so I’m going to use the term ‘take part in this show’ until the night.”
Canelo believes he is destined to get the victory over Saunders.
“I’m going to win, without a doubt. I’m going to win. I’m training at 100 percent. I came to win, I came to make history, and that’s the only thing going through my head.”
Canelo vs. Saunders will be held inside Hard Rock Stadium in Miami, Florida. If Canelo is victorious, many expect him to take on IBF Champion Caleb Plant in a title unification bout. Saunders has admitted he is disappointed with Eddie Hearn seeking potential locations for Canelo vs. Plant.
