Canelo Alvarez insists that Billy Joe Saunders will show up on fight night.
Canelo and Saunders are scheduled to collide this Saturday night, May 8. The two will share the ring inside AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. Canelo will put three super-middleweight titles (WBA, WBC, and The Ring) on the line, while Saunders’ WBO gold will be at stake.
Saunders has caused quite a stir during fight week. He expressed his gripes over the ring size for the bout. The WBO champion feels the ring shouldn’t be 20 feet or smaller. Saunders’ father told iFL TV that the fight is off.
Speaking to media members, Canelo shared his belief that Saunders is making excuses.
“The truth is I don’t care about the size of the ring, I’m just gonna go in there and do my job. It’s not the only excuse he’s had. He’s had plenty of excuses but I’m just gonna in there and do what I gotta do.”
As far as whether or not Saunders has gotten under his skin, Canelo said he isn’t fazed.
“Nothing frustrates me, I’m just focused on winning on Saturday and I’m calm.”
When asked if there’s a plan B in case Saunders is a no-show on fight night, Canelo said the following.
“He has to fight Saturday. The fight’s going to happen on Saturday, that’s not a problem.”
