Canelo Alvarez has dismissed fighting Terence Crawford as he fired some verbal shots at the Saudis.
Canelo is currently focused on defending his three super middleweight belts, WBC, WBO and WBA, against Edgar Berlanga on September 14. However, there has been talk over his next fight already. David Benavidez appears unlikely as the Mexican Monster will now box at light heavyweight.
He aims to secure an undisputed fight with the winner of Artur Beterbiev vs. Dmitry Bivol. Crawford was seen as the next favorite. After Bud’s victory against Israil Madrimov, he said he wanted to fight for the right money. The Saudis contacted Canelo to discuss the Crawford fight.
Alvarez was not impressed since he was focused on Berlanga. He also was against fighting Crawford, as he wanted to dictate things on his terms. He has now called on Crawford to face Teofimo Lopez, who has been chasing Bud for a super fight.
“Crawford needs to fight Teofimo first, and then we’ll see. I’m not asking for that fight. They [Crawford] want to make that fight because it’s a payday obviously. I don’t want that fight. Teofimo deserves it more than me…Yesterday they text me and said we can talk about that fight in February with Crawford. I said, ‘I’m not going to talk about any other fight. I’m focused 100% on this fight. Look, I don’t like the way [they] talk. If [they] want to work with me, it’s my way, not their way. I don’t need it. It’s not the way you approach me. I respect everybody… If [they] want to work with me, it needs to be my way. If have nothing to do with Crawford,” Canelo said
The Saudis have hit back at Canelo.
“[We] heard what Canelo said that he respects me but doesn’t like the way we do business. As for the way [we] do business, [we] know why he doesn’t like it, because [we] only target big fights at fair prices, so of course anyone who likes easy fights won’t like that,” Saudis
