Canelo Alvarez Lands Forbes Cover

Canelo Alvarez has ranked fifth among the highest-paid athletes of 2023.

Alvarez has acquired at least a $275 million fortune, according to Forbes magazine, putting him alongside some of the biggest names in sport: Roger Federer, Lionel Messi, and Cristiano Ronaldo. The fortune consists of boxing earnings, sponsorships, and business ventures, some of which include VMC, a canned tequila cocktail, and Yaoca, a sports drink. That earned Canelo a spot on the Forbes’ 30 under 30 list. The boxer has continued that financial success with his current three-fight deal with the PBC, worth upwards of $100 million.

“Canelo signed a lucrative agreement that will exceed 100 million dollars for those three appointments in the ring, the one in September 2023 and the ones in May and September of next year. Canelo’ Álvarez confirmed his return in September and that he has reached an agreement for his next fight with Premier Boxing Champions (PBC) [against middleweight] Jermall Charlo, either in Las Vegas or Texas,” ESPN’s Salvador Rodriguez

In his last fight against Jermell Charlo, Alvarez earned a reported $50 million for a fight where he was facing a 154-pounder. Alvarez is a cash cow of the sport, allowing him to dictate fights on his terms. As long as he remains the undisputed super middleweight champion, Canelo has plenty more lucrative fights ahead of him.
