Canelo Alvarez Named WBC’s Boxer Of The Month For November
World Boxing Association (WBA) has named Saul “Canelo” Alvarez as the Boxer of the Month for making history on November 6 when he beat Caleb Plant.
The Mexican star became the undisputed Super Middleweight champion when he knocked out Plant at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
The win earned him the IBF belt that became another addition to his WBA Super Championship, the WBO and WBC belts.
Canelo is now eyeing the WBC cruiserweight title that Ilunga Makabu currently holds.
The Canelo vs Makabu fight was booked by the sanctioning body in its 59th convention held in November. Both boxers were pleased once the matchup was confirmed. It’s a win-win situation for the boxers.
While Makabu earns a huge payday, Canelo has a chance to have a go at the newly-introduced division and add another WBC strap to his decorated resume.
The unified champion is confident that gaining some pounds and challenging Makabu at a division he has never fought before will be a thrilling challenge, but it’s not something he cannot pull off.
Makabu feels otherwise. The cruiserweight champ feels that Canelo will not be able to stroll past him like has done against other opponents in lower weight classes.
