Canelo Alvarez Speaks On Callum Smith Fight

Canelo Alvarez has weighed in on his upcoming title bout with Callum Smith.

Canelo and Smith will collide on December 19. The WBA (Super) Super-Middleweight gold will be on the line. This will be Canelo’s first bout since November 2, 2019. He defeated Sergey Kovalev via 11th-round knockout to capture the WBO Light-Heavyweight Title. Canelo vacated the gold in favor of moving back down to Super-Middleweight.

In a press release from Matchroom Boxing, Canelo expressed his joy in being able to return to the boxing ring.

“I’m very happy to return to the ring and continue to make history,” said Canelo. “I am motivated to continue to be the best, and I look forward to fighting Callum Smith, who is one of the best at 168lbs.”

Canelo’s trainer also chimed, saying that his fighter had been hoping to end 2020 with another title win.

“We are very happy to return to the ring and close out the year with one more victory to continue demonstrating that Canelo is the best boxer on this planet,” said Eddy Reynoso, Sport and Talent director at Canelo Promotions and Canelo’s trainer.

Going into this fight, Canelo has a record of 53-1-2 with 36 knockouts to his credit. Smith has a perfect record of 27-0 with 19 knockouts along the way. This is easily the biggest bout of his career. As of this writing, Canelo is the -400 betting favorite according to Odds Checker.
