Canelo Alvarez Takes Jab At Floyd Mayweather
Canelo Alvarez has responded to Floyd Mayweather’s latest criticism arguing the former undisputed Champion is “jealous” and “bitter” about the accomplishments of the Mexican star.
Mayweather recently addressed media stating that he wasn’t impressed with Canelo moving to cruiserweight to challenge WBC champion Ilunga Makabu.
Mayweather was of opinion that the current pound-for-pound king is “ducking” former two-time WBC 168-lb champion David Benavidez. He argued Canelo should have faced undefeated Benavidez rather than going after the Cruiserweight champion.
“My personal opinion is that he’s ducking Benavidez. You know, it’s just my personal opinion, and I’m allowed to speak my mind, that’s just what it is,” Mayweather addressed media personnel last week.
“He’s going up to cruiserweight and [Makabu], he used to be at the Mayweather Boxing Gym, and the guys were really getting the best of him in the Mayweather Boxing Gym,” Mayweather added.
Following the interview, Mayweather mocked the Mexican star by labeling his 2013 decision win over the latter as a “cakewalk.”
Canelo hasn’t taken this very lightly and has come up with a tweet claiming that he has achieved more at the age of 31 what Mayweather had achieved at the same age.
Canelo retweeted a post from one of his social media followers which was accompanied by a picture comparing several stats between Alvarez and Mayweather.
“This is why Floyd is so jealous of Canelo and so salty and bitter. Canelo at ONLY 31 is already surpassing Floyd’s ENTIRE career,” the tweet read.
“Where was Floyd at 31? At 31 he was no where near where Canelo is at right now! By the time Canelo is done, Canelo WILL BE FAR AHEAD of Floyd.”
And it’s not the first time the two have been involved in a verbal exchange on different platforms out there.
Previously, Mayweather bitterly criticized Alvarez after he was tested positive for banned PED clenbuterol just before his 2018 rematch with Gennady Golovkin.
